As with many things in life we wouldn't have got where we are today without a little help from our friends. The level of support has been astounding and this is our opportunity to give thanks to those people who have helped smooth things along for us.
Pete: The very first people I want to say thank-you to is Etienne and Edina. They were the owners of Musichana and very generously transferred ownership to me when they heard about the proposed voyage earlier this year. None of this would have happened without their help. It was wonderful to get that phone call and the offer of the boat. Etienne and Edina - this Goethe quote is for you: "Whatever you can do or dream, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now". Thanks for your boldness.
Sam was never supposed to stop off at Marmaris Yacht Marina but circumstances dictated different. It was possibly the best thing that could have happened since it was here that the idea of the People's Navy came about, and as a result from that the Marina has agreed to drop all marina fees for Sam and Cindik. The marina also allowed us to take over the restaurant so that we could screen John Pilger's documentary. In particular we should thank Nazli, the front office manager.
After showing the above-mentioned documentary to one hundred and fifty yachties, the level of support received from them has been insurmountable. People have given up their time to help Sam with a number of technical and mechanical issues on Cindik. In particular we should thank:
Everyone who bought raffle tickets and dontated prizes for the raffle. Too many names to mention but rest-assured everyone's contribution is acknowledged and appreciated. Plus, in no particular order:
Karen and Paul of 'Antigua Lady' for their organisation
of various fund-raising events
Claudia for donating one of her wonderful hand-made rucksacs
Tom of 'Alba Voyager' for donating gold pens for the raffle
Kevin, Karen, Aiden and Katrina of 'Nisroc' who helped with carpentry,
salsacise fund-raising event and providing a rock of family support
Emma, Mark, Tom and George of 'Cowrie' for help with carpentry
and the donation of a dinghy!
Mike and Sam of 'Master Spy' for help with the engine
Susie and Robin of 'True Blue 1' for help with promotion
and passage planning advice
Graham of 'Eeyore' for coordinating work with Demir Marine
Carin for coordinating stores
Eve of 'Eve' for her work with the flags
The crew of 'Bon Bon' for assisting Eve with the flags
Tony and Pat of 'Full Flight' for their help with the self-steering

After enough money was raised by the liveaboards at Marmaris Yacht Marina to buy Sam a new 80w solar panel, the next step was to install it on Cindik. Sam had already installed a 45w panel on the top of his hatch but wanted to mount the two together at the back of the boat. Enter Demir Marine!
Demir Marine, run by Ilhan Demir, is a well established and well respected total marine solutions outfit, based in the marina itself. Ilhan's reputation for stainless steel work is excellent and his work can be seen all around the marina on many people's boats. He is a diligent and friendly man who project manages his work with complete professionalism, so it's no wonder that the stainless steel frame that Demir created for Cindik is a solid bit of engineering.
Ilhan agreed to supply the steel at cost and dropped all charges for labour too. Our heartfelt thanks go out to Ilhan and his workers.
Check out Demir Marine's website for further information on his services.
After the solar panels were mounted on the back of Cindik it was Macit Yuksel who stepped in to wire the panels up. Macit works in and around the Marmaris area and is an excellent electrician who approaches his work with reliability, efficiency and integrity. Macit was introduced to Sam by Jamie and Liz who had some major electrical upgrades done to Esper and were very impressed with the way Macit works.
He also donated a regulator to Cindik, so we must thank Macit for his time, which he donated for free. It's worth mentioning that Macit is the offical distributor of Kyocera solar panels in Marmaris. Kyocera hold the record for the most efficient solar panels on the market today!
Pictured bellow is Macit and Sam with the bracket created by Demir Marine. To contact Macit please call him on 0532 506 51 26 or email him.

One person who must be thanked is Francois Catz who has translated the entire Peoplesnavy web site into French. As soon as Francois heard about the cause he immediately volunteered his help and is so fast at turning around the translation that we can barely keep up!
The French translation is particularly important as the Chagossian language is a form of French patois and this effort recognizes directly the people we are trying to help. Thank you, Francois, your efforts are never forgotten.

CSS Play. It's a wonderful resource for web developers and has saved Jamie's neck a few times. Thanks to Stu for his indirect support with the website!
